Certifications under international standards

Sipef is committed to recognized, transparent sustainability standards, and to integrating the standards into management procedures.
Regular certification audits and surveillance visits by independent third-parties are an integral part of working towards better sustainability standards. Preparing for these assessments is an opportunity to benchmark our practices against internationally recognized standards, promote continuous improvement at all levels, and overall better team work.

ISO 9001 (Quality Management System) demonstrates the ability to manage production systems efficiently, reaching a high level of conformity. Our four Indonesian palm oil mills have been certified in 2010 under ISO 9001:2008, but also our tea factory of Cibuni (Indonesia), and the crumb rubber factory of PT AM.

ISO 14001 (Environmental Management System) is a globally recognized methodology for environmental management. HOPL adopted this methodology and was first certified in 2005, then confirmed in 2008 at the first surveillance audit (against ISO 14001:2004). Our 4 Indonesian palm oil mills have been certified in 2010.

RSPO is an industry-specific standard, developed by a broad coalition of stakeholders of the palm oil sector. The RSPO certification process requires that members submit a challenging time-bound plan for the audit of all the operations (an operation is defined as a palm oil mill and its supply base) where they have majority interests. Sipef currently operates 6 palm oil mills in two countries (Indonesia and PNG), and has submitted a time-bound plan for audit of all 6 mills by the end of 2010. Sipef has chosen the British Standard Institute (BSI) as certification body. BSI is an accredited RSPO certification body.
